Dr. Dyment's ultimate goal is that her patients are successful in the treatment regimes. Thus, she works with patients to provide options and develop a plan that works best for them and their individual needs. A question that comes up during treatment plan development often is "What are your goals?". Think about this when booking your appointment!

Some treatments that may be suggested are:

Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture

This modality originated thousands of years ago and is used to help diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, including but not limited to pain. Herbal formulas and acupuncture (puncturing of the skin with very small needles) may be used to stimulate the body's ability to heal.

Botanical Medicine

Herbs can be used in a variety of ways in naturopathic medicine. For example, they can be used to help the body attack an infection, or they can be used to help the body defend against an infection. Herbs can be used alone or in combination to have a synergistic effect in promoting healing within the body. Although they are often thought of as very safe, they can interact with medications and should always be taken under the supervision of a naturopathic doctor.

This is the use of water in the treatment of disease and maintenance of health. The idea with hydrotherapy is that health and healing is proportional to blood flow. Hydrotherapy uses varying temperatures of water to alter blood flow and enhances it's circulation through the organs to help eliminate waste and increase nutrient delivery to tissues. (Boyle & Saine, 1995)

"Our job is to make over the blood. Until we do, we're just spinning our wheels." - Harold Dick

Physical Medicine

Relaxing the muscles and moving the joints into proper alignment allows energy to flow smoothly through the body and healing to occur. Often you can tell just by observing the patient, based on skin changes, temperature changes, and fullness, where there may be reduced blood flow and stagnant energy. Touching the patient provides additional information in order to diagnose any misalignments and allow proper correction to occur. This is similar to what you would expect to experience from a visit to a chiropractor. Physical medicine can also include the use of electrical stimulation, heat/cold, and vibration. For example, TENS stimulation may be used to help decrease pain. These methods can stimulate nerves to relax muscles, decrease swelling, increase endorphins, decrease pain, stimulate circulation and promote clearance of waste products.

Nutritional Counselling

Naturopathic doctors know that the media is full of misleading information regarding what is healthy and what is not healthy for us to be putting into our bodies. Having a naturopathic doctor help you come up with detailed recommendations on how to eat to promote wellness is an under utilized but essential tool in your path to health. Different "diets" may be recommended, not necessarily to lose weight but to correct the biochemical functioning of the body through the use of food. What you put in your body reflects what you get out of it, so "let food be thy medicine" - Hippocrates.

Lifestyle Recommendations

Although a lot of the time we think we are leading healthy lives, there may be a key component to wellness that we are missing. A naturopathic doctor can help fine tune your lifestyle to ensure you are doing everything you can to be healthy. Lifestyle changes can include things like sleep recommendations, exercise regimes and environmental changes.

This is a system of medicine that has been used for over 200 years to help patients achieve wellness. It is safe and effective natural form of medicine that is often derived from natural sources, such as plants, in extremely low amounts. The small doses stimulate the body's innate ability to heal itself. Homeopathy does not treat the symptoms, but rather the whole person. A homeopathic intake may be suggested for you after your first visit. For more information on homeopathy, please see or you can purchase the book on Amazon.

This could include vitamins, minerals, and various other nutrients that assist the body's natural biochemical processes. The goal with supplementation is to ensure the body is getting all the necessary nutrients and co-factors it needs in order to function as optimally as possible.
